Put Your Shopping Cart Away!

So one of my wife’s pet peeves and things that really grinds her gears is when people leave their shopping carts throughout the parking lot.
So here is a picture of me pushing two shopping carts back to the store to be put away.
I did not do this on my own - Whitney "volun-told" me to do it! 😂
Before meeting Whitney I can honestly say I had never thought about shopping carts being put away. It had never once crossed my mind.
To be clear, I always did put mine back in the rack, but I had never thought about how selfish and negative it is to just leave the cart in the parking lot.
When you think about it:
It is lazy.
It is a disregard for other people who might need the carts.
It is disrespectful to the worker who retrieves the cart and makes more work for them.
It truly is very selfish.
But my thoughts don’t only stick to shopping carts.
It makes me think about other things that happen that are very selfish or have a disregard for others.
It is easy to go about your day and not think of those things.
It’s not that we as humans have intentions to negatively impact others, but we sometimes DO negatively impact others because we aren’t thoughtful.
So I challenge people to think about little things that could hinder or negatively impact others.
Taking the last cup of coffee at the work coffee pot and not starting another pot?
Throwing trash in the bin and it being full, and not emptying it?
Cleaning up your work station so the next person on shift has a clean work area?
Realize you don’t want an item at the grocery store so you just leave it in a random aisle?
All of these are the same as the shopping cart.
We all have likely done these things. I know I have!
My hope is we all become a little more thoughtful around doing the little things that are selfless and don’t negatively impact others.
