The word Leader has some fascinating origins. One is from a Germanic word, Laidijan, which means “to cause one to go.”
In essence, a leader isn’t someone who simply commands or directs—they inspire movement.
They inspire people "to go.."
I like to think of it as inspiring people to go on a journey, a journey with you.
I believe it is about guiding and interacting with people in a way that makes them want to move with you, while still taking action on their own accord.
We all know true leadership isn’t about power over others - so a main focus of leaders should be on how to influence others to willingly follow, to share a vision, and to align their actions with a common goal.
Think about it: people choose to follow a leader who moves them toward something meaningful.
So, let’s simplify and rethink leadership. It's not much different than trying to convince a group of people to go on a vacation with you.
How would you approach convincing a group of people to go on a vacation together?
More than likely, you could use those same behaviors as a leader.
