Discovering Your Best Self: Finding Your Therapy in Unexpected Places

Updated: Sep 25, 2024

A top self-therapy for me is driving, listening to music on maximum, and singing every single word at the top of my lungs!

***This is a re-post from a previous LinkedIn post, but is too good not too re-share***

If you see me driving on a long trip outside of La Crosse - I hope you have some chuckles!

You will see me singing wholeheartedly in my truck! Years ago it was in my Mazda (see pic below!)

My rules for this type self-therapy:

#1 If I don’t know every word the song, the song does not get played.

#2 The music will be loud.

#3 I will sing every song as if it is the last song I will sing.

#4 I will imagine myself as the person in the song. It connects me to the emotions of the song, even if I have never had that life experience before.

#5 Do not worry if others see you.

#6 Continue to pay attention to the road - there’s construction and crazy drivers everywhere! 🚧 🚗

________________

No matter the distance of the trip, if I am alone in my vehicle I will do this for hours straight on my drive!

When I am done, I usually feel like a completely new human by the time I am home or to my destination! 😃

Who else does this?

What are some of your self-therapies!?

If you have not identified a self-therapy yet, I encourage to try some new ways to relieve stress yet enjoy the time.

I used to drive thousands of miles all by myself. That doesn't happen anymore, so finding new self-therapies is something I am working on!

I know one thing is certain, doom scrolling is not it (I'm working on breaking that habit!)

Find something for yourself. It is important for your overall health, and mental health!

Sing on! 🎤
